“This is Palermo” reaches the top of the podium at the SJA British Sports Journalism Awards 2025, one of the most prestigious recognitions in the international sports media landscape, celebrating excellence in journalism and broadcast production each year. The documentary, co-produced by COPA90 and Palermo FC, was awarded yesterday at the London Palladium with the gold medal for Best Television Documentary, ahead of productions by major international players such as BBC, Noah Media Group and Sky Sports News.

The documentary “This is Palermo” was filmed last autumn on the occasion of the Club’s 125th anniversary: an authentic portrait of the city, intertwining the football narrative with its human and cultural dimensions, and offering a journey into Palermo’s deep identity and its bond with the team, placing fans and their passion at the heart of the story.

The award received on the SJA Awards stage represents an important recognition of excellence in international sports journalism and broadcast production. It marks another step in Palermo FC’s storytelling journey, capable of connecting football, culture and community, and of speaking to a global audience.

“This award,” said Gaetano Lombardo, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer of Palermo FC, “makes us proud and proves that the values of this Club, this city and its community are a universal language. Anyone can relate to these stories if they are told as they deserve: we do not need to invent anything, but simply enhance the expressive power that already exists in the emotions these colours can evoke. Together with COPA90, we wanted to show how the Club and the city overlap in telling a shared story, one built on faith, belonging, pride and resilience. These are the elements that have allowed the people of Palermo to respond even in the darkest moments and to rise again, always striving higher throughout their history.”
