Palermo FC received a prestigious award in Rome yesterday at the inaugural edition of the “Assi Manager Award 2026 – Excellence Driving Sport”, an event dedicated to projects, organisations and professionals contributing to the evolution of the sports industry through innovation, professional development, sustainability and inclusion.
The “Team Sport” award was presented to the Rosanero Club for “Palermo in the Community”, a social project dedicated to building and redeveloping small-sided football pitches in the city’s most disadvantaged neighbourhoods. The initiative is in line with similar international programmes run by City Football Group, which have already led to the creation of dozens of football pitches around the world. Through collaboration between the Club, public institutions, Third Sector organisations and voluntary associations, “Palermo in the Community” helps build social networks that provide new opportunities for personal development and social interaction for local children and young people. This commitment has already taken shape in Palermo with the inauguration of the football pitch at Piazza Magione, restored and returned to the community as a renewed space dedicated to younger generations.
During the ceremony, the award was presented to Gaetano Lombardo, Marketing and Communications Director of Palermo FC, by Lega Serie B President Paolo Bedin, who said: “Sport creates value above all when it goes beyond results and makes a tangible difference in local communities. Congratulations to Palermo FC on receiving this award, which recognises a concrete initiative that is perfectly aligned with the values we want to continue promoting as Lega Serie B”.
