COPA90’s documentary series “This Is” returns with an exciting new chapter, produced in collaboration with Palermo FC. “This Is Palermo” is a thrilling journey into the identity of the city of Palermo and its deep and enduring bond with its team, Palermo FC.
Over the course of its 125-year history, the rosanero Club has experienced moments of light and shadow: from complex corporate issues to relegation to the lower divisions of Italian football. The team, like a phoenix, has always risen from its ashes and, after returning to Serie B, is now ready to write new glorious pages in its history.
This resilience is the same that animates its people. The fans embody the essence of Palermo: a city of extraordinary beauty, suspended between the sea and the mountains, where centuries of cultures intertwine and every stone tells a story. In the documentary, the city itself becomes the protagonist, with its colours, sounds and unmistakable energy.
The documentary also explores the origins of the famous “rosanero”, a symbol of a complex yet fascinating identity, and recounts how a passion for football has always been a universal language for the people of Palermo, capable of uniting generations and overcoming all difficulties. Through the city’s layered identity, shaped by centuries of culture, language and religion, it is football that emerges as the most authentic expression of the Sicilian soul.
“This Is Palermo” puts the fans at the centre of the narrative: from the priest with a passion for football to some long-standing supporters of the Curva Nord, to a couple who chose to celebrate their love on the Barbera pitch. Among the protagonists is Giacomo Corona, the city’s prodigal son, who now proudly wears the rosanero jersey, following in the footsteps of his father, who played for several years in Palermo’s rival teams.
The documentary, unveiled to the public during the talk “Palermo 125 – Una storia rosanero”, will be available from Sunday 2 November on the official YouTube channels of Palermo FC and Copa90.
“Since 2012, COPA90 has become renowned worldwide for telling the stories that live beyond the ninety minutes but make those same ninety minutes even more meaningful – says Ross Whittow-Williams, Chief Strategy Officer and Executive Producer at COPA90 – . Stories that transcend the pitch and reveal the heart and soul of this beautiful sport. This Is Palermo is a testament to this mission, capturing the deep connection between a Club, its city and the authentic meaning of being Palermitan”.
“This Is Palermo represents an extraordinary opportunity for the Club to show the world the soul of our city, which has accompanied our passion for our colours for 125 years, regardless of sporting results. Together with COPA90, we wanted to show where this fire comes from and how the Club and the city overlap in the telling of a common story, one made up of faith, belonging, pride and resilience This is what has allowed the people of Palermo to react even in the darkest moments, to rise again and again and to aim higher – throughout the course of their entire history. Celebrating Palermo’s 125th anniversary means celebrating 125 years of this attitude that has always existed and will always exist,” said Gaetano Lombardo, Marketing and Communications Director at Palermo FC.
