Palermo FC and the Regional Department for Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity presented this afternoon the new stop of the “Palermo 125” photographic exhibition in the cloister of the “A. Bombace” Central Library of the Sicilian Region, located at Via Vittorio Emanuele 429 in Palermo.
The symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by Palermo FC President Dario Mirri, Regional Councillor for Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity Francesco Paolo Scarpinato, Director General Mario La Rocca, and the Director of the Central Library of the Sicilian Region Laura Cappuggi. Also significant was the participation of representatives from Palermo Women and the rosanero Youth Sector.
After its debut in front of the Teatro Politeama Garibaldi in Piazza Ruggero Settimo, on the occasion of the Club’s 125th anniversary celebrated last 1 November, and its subsequent displays at the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa – Officine Ducrot and the Molo Trapezoidale, the exhibition now arrives in the heart of the city’s historic centre, in a setting of great cultural value and strong tourist appeal.
“Palermo 125”, organised by Palermo FC with the support of the Municipality of Palermo and curated by the rosanero Club’s museum manager Giovanni Tarantino, is a cultural project of significant historical and social value. It was conceived to tell the story of the impact that Palermo has had, over more than 125 years of history, on the cultural and identity evolution of the city of Palermo. The exhibition route takes visitors on a narrative journey of passion and belonging, highlighting the role of football as a phenomenon capable of reflecting and accompanying the changes of an entire community. For this occasion, the exhibition will also be enriched with previously unseen and original materials from the Palermo Museum and the Library, offering unique testimonies on the history of the Club and the Renzo Barbera Stadium.
The exhibition will remain open to visitors at the Central Library of the Sicilian Region until 30 September 2026, from Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Francesco Paolo Scarpinato, Regional Councillor for Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity: “The history of Palermo is also the history of the city. Over 125 years, the Club has accompanied its growth and its changes, becoming one of the most representative symbols of Palermo’s identity. Hosting this exhibition means enhancing the deep connection between sport, culture and collective memory, offering citizens and visitors a valuable opportunity for knowledge and deeper understanding. We hope this initiative will help bring more and more young people closer to the library, an authentic treasure chest of Sicilian history and culture”.
Dario Mirri, President of Palermo FC: “The history of Palermo is, in its own way, the history of the city. From its own perspective, it tells the story of the city’s cultural and social evolution. That is why we are proud that the exhibition is arriving in such a symbolic place, in the heart of the historic centre, where the story of the Club intertwines with the streets walked every day by Palermo residents and tourists. The enrichment of the exhibition with previously unseen materials from the Library adds further value to this stop, allowing it to intersect with the city’s historical memory, to preserve and share new testimonies on our history and on the Renzo Barbera Stadium, which today looks confidently to the future and to its redevelopment without losing its connection to its memory”.
